How it started
A love of coffee and a gap in the town.
When we opened in 2019 South Hill didn't have a café where you could slow down, stay a while, and drink something genuinely good. Two families combined their names and built Bringleton's Coffee House into a favorite destination for locals and travelers alike!
In 2024, long-time regular Matthew Kelly partnered with his friend and bandmate Brent Hood to purchase the shop. For the next year and a half they worked together to restore the Coffee House as South Hill’s favorite local café. Brent backed the venture from the business side while Matthew managed the hands-on operations.
It worked. Bringleton's has built a steady flow of regulars (Good morning, Jimmy, Anne, Scott, and Melissa!), interstate travelers, corporate clients for catering, and is a regular host to several Bible studies and ministry events.
The coffee

Our beans are roasted in Midlothian, VA, delivered at peak freshness, and ground and brewed to order!
That freshness shows up in the cup: cleaner flavors, better crema, and a sweetness that pre-ground or mass-roasted coffee can't replicate.
Sure, "they" have coffee. We have GOOD coffee!

Matthew became a "coffee snob" in his early teens. At that point coffee was generally "red tub or blue tub", so when he discovered a small-batch artisan roaster it was downhill from there! Freshly roasted beans from around the world turned into him buying beans green and roasting in a popcorn popper in the kitchen.
Every vacation included a hunt for a small shop much like Bringleton's (because research, obviously!) So when the chance came to own such a shop..."It was almost cheaper for me to buy the shop than to keep buying the coffee!"
In addition to the Coffee House he travels preaching (hence the name) and singing with First Go 'Round gospel bluegrass, raises 7 kids with his wife Stephanie, works as an IT tech and consultant. As of November 2025 he is the sole owner of South Hill's favorite coffee house.
...oh, and that small-batch artisan roaster that helped start this habit over a decade ago? They roast our beans today!
